And I Won Final Week 4 of the Amdocs Lifehacks Blogging Competition

And I Won Final Week 4 of the Amdocs Lifehacks Blogging Competition

As a prequel to the Innovation week, the Amdocs Global Marketing team kicked off their First Ever Amdocs Blogging Competition. The aim was to challenge the employees to share their innovations at home, on vacation, at work, and those innovations from movies that they would like to see come to life. The final week of the Amdocs Lifehacks Blogging Competition also coincided with the Innovation week at Amdocs.

Each week featured a different theme. In the week 4, employees were asked you to write about workplace innovations. The Blogs were to address à “Where does your innovation come from? We want to know how you innovate at the office!”

The final week 4 had the most popular topic with employees from around the world shared their thoughts and ideas on innovation.

Thanks to your likes and wishes, I beat everyone else while blogging and sharing his way to the top of the leaderboard in Week 4 for workplace innovations. Throughout the competition, I wrote a total of 16 blog posts. And as the tag for the competition suggested à #AmdocsGoSocial, Ishared posts via Twitter, Facebook, and other social channels.

I will be receiving the Makey Makey GO for his efforts. Makey Makey GO is the World’s First Invention Kit that goes with you everywhere

“Thanks Amdocs for the platform to express our Innovative Ideas and share them across,” wrote yours truly, perhaps summing up the spirit of innovation that was infused throughout the Amdocs Lifehacks Blogging Competition. Thanks to your love, comments and like for making this possible :-)

CSU India celebrates Diwali with a Purpose…

CSU India celebrates Diwali with a Purpose…

It’s arguably the best time of the year when we are having series of festivals one following another. Diwali being the biggest and the brightest festival in India. It spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness. And the CSU India team aimed to do just that…

Almost a week before Diwali, instead of the usual Diwali celebration of food, crackers and grandeur, the CSU team decided to give something back to the society. The initial idea proposed got thumping applaud and approval for execution. What started as an idea, took form of a full blown event when presented in the CSU monthly cakes meeting.

For the uninitiated, the Annapurna is a residential school for children from marginal sections of the society. Amdocs CSR has been actively involved with Annapurna Kids through mentor together and other programs.

On 2nd November, the CSU team along with India CSR team, planned and brought the Annapurna Kids to Amdocs premises for Diwali celebration along with them. The event started with lunch and interaction of the kids with the CSU team. The comradeship developed in lunch translated in an impromptu session of songs, interactions and ‘antakshari’

Not only was the CSU team enthusiastic about the event, they whole heartedly contributed for the event. From organizing to getting additional return gifts for the Annapurna Kids, the whole CSU team turned up to make the event a great success.

The way all the CSU team mingled with the kids, made them smile, surely boosted their confidence. The event ended with nice return gift for all the kids who attended the event. The CSU team wished them a happy and safe Diwali and all the Best for the exam which followed the next day too J

CSU India has definitely set a wonderful example for many others to follow. This is a good first step of the CSU India team participating into Blossom-CSR events, looking forward for many more to come.

3 Years and Still Going Strong...

It has been 3 years since I started this Blog as:

Sanjay Ishwarlal Upadhyay's Blog Page

Looking back at it now, I can just happily reflect the fact that I started writing publicly. After 56 posts and 2000 views later, I can claim to be a better writer from what I started.

I'm glad to be able to write every month since I started. I must admit its tough in times of project crisis. But its the solace that I get out of writing makes it worth the effort :-)

I'll take the anniversary as an excuse not to write any more articles this celebration month

So, Thanks for visiting this Page...
And as my Blog header says -->

Welcome to my Blog Page. I Blog for fun, whenever I find secluded time for creative writing! Read when you find time. Feel free to give comments for improvement :-)

I highlighted the most important aspect.
Your comments for improvement and encouragement are precious...

Hackers: the Internet's immune system

Keren Elazari: Hackers: the Internet's immune system

The beauty of hackers, says cyber security expert Keren Elazari,
Is that they force us to evolve and improve.

Yes, some hackers are bad guys, but many are working to fight government corruption and
advocate for our rights.
By exposing vulnerabilities, they push the Internet to become stronger and healthier, wielding their power to create a better world

Interesting right?

Do your drive your Project as an Art or Science?

After my PMP and CDM certification, which happened about 3 years ago, I was elated to take on any challenge that the Project Management as a CDM throws at me. I held the basic premise that Project Management was a scientific discipline and the certifications would suffice.

My perception of Project management as a Science was developed from the fact that logic and order are fundamental to guiding a project to a success. Project management as seen through the certifications like PMP and Prince 2, appear primarily about defining and applying process. However as time passes and as you gain experience in management of the program, you realize you were wrong... You were so very wrong!!!

By defining Project management as Art... I do not mean to view a project plan, in the form of a Gantt chart, as a thing of beauty. It essentially is and should be treated as a list of facts with an order and relationship between them.

What I mean is… when projects go off track or get behind schedule then the creative, improvisational skills of the Project Manager really come into play. It’s an essential art to adapt to changing circumstances. The art of bringing the project team along with them on the journey essentially keeps the project on time and on budget.

So... Is project management an art that you're born with or a science that you can learn? The truth is, it's both…

Project Management is one area which requires both a creative and technical approach to achieve success. The two aren’t naturally compatible and it often takes someone with an appreciation of the nuances of each to keep the art i.e., dialogue going and deliver the science i.e. a good solution.

The key is donning the right cap to occupy the project manager role: to practices both art and science. One without the other is like a car with an accelerator but no brakes. Your project may get to its destination, but you will leave a trail of accidents behind you.

So... Do your drive your Project as an Art or Science?
I’m more art inclined than Science now
What are you? Write below in comments and let us know…

Signing off with a quote by Greg Cimmarrusti,
“Being a Project Manager is like being an artist, you have the different colored process streams combining into a work of art”

How One Tweet Can Ruin Your Life | Jon Ronson | TED Talks

Always love the TED Talks and this one is special...

For the longest time Jon Ronson reveled in the fact that Twitter gave a voice to the voiceless ...

The social media platform gave us all a chance to speak up and hit back at perceived injustice.

But somewhere along the way, things took a turn. In this passionate, eloquent talk,

Ronson explains how too often we end up behaving like a baying mob — and that it's time to rethink how we interact with others online.

Be careful with your social media presence...

WoW... Completed 51 Blogs...

WoW... Completed 51 Blogs...

So. Google tells me I’ve completed 51 Blogs… Interesting.

The journey to pen in my thoughts which I started about 3 years ago has given fruits. As you must have noticed on my Blog Header à I Blog for fun, whenever I find secluded time for creative writing. Which somehow does not happen often.

However, I’ve committed myself to write atleast one a month, sometimes if lucky maybe twice. While I would like the frequency to improve, I think it’s adequate to keep me motivated and keep you interested without much of information overload!

You might also have noticed the new variation that I have added called “Management Lessons from Life/Event of”... It’s just an effort to have something refreshing over the time. Also gives me a chance to use my SIBM MBA to some strategic use J

Coming months, I also plan to write about the CSR I support Blossom—Amdocs India CSR who are doing fantastic work for the community and young children to be more specific.

So, keep reading and Feel free to give comments for improvement J I follow what Emerson said: "Every man I meet is my superior in some way, In that, I learn of him."

Thank you for your time spent... Appreciate it!!!

Wisdom of Jack Ma condensed into quotes

Wisdom of Jack Ma condensed into quotes

Fifty years ago, a boy was born to a family of traditional musician-storytellers in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province of China. In 1972, when US President Richard Nixon visited China, this boy was merely eight years old. But little did anyone know that this visit will sow the seed in the mind of this eight-year-old to dream big.

The US President’s visit left the boy with a desire to learn English and he started to guide foreign tourists in his hometown in exchange for learning English from them. One of the tourists gave him the name ‘Jack’. The name stuck, and Jack went on to become a celebrity in China by creating the largest e-commerce company of the world. But more importantly, his success taught the ordinary people to dream of doing extraordinary things.

The Internet is under threat.

The Internet is under threat.

If some phone companies have their way, then that wonderful thing we've grown up on - and used for years to search, chat, research, review, share photos, watch videos, and of course, Skype and Whatsapp - may become too expensive to afford.
The foundation of the Internet was built by men and women who worked hard and worked selflessly for the welfare of humanity. Whether it was Dennis Ritchie, who invented the C-Programming language which made much of software possible for the Internet; Vinton Cerf, the research student who co-authored the TCP/IP protocols on which the Internet runs today, or Time Berner-Lee, who wrote the HTML language which made browsing the World Wide Web possible, all of these noble individuals (and some institutions), donated their invention and innovation for the greater cause of humanity. Their efforts over decades kept the Internet open and neutral - enabling us to use it the way we do today, and have done, in the past.

As of today, we pay for "Internet access" to our service provider or mobile operator based on the amount of bandwidth consumed (measured in GB per month or unlimited per month). Now comes greed and avarice. Some of India's over-sized, cash-hungry, customer-unfriendly mobile operators want to charge you based on the websites you visit, rather than the amount of data you download. They want to dictate to you what apps you can use. They want more money from all of us - to access the same Internet that we have always used, fairly freely. Can you imagine a scenario where your local electricity supply corporation, bills you based on the appliances you use?

Electricity companies can't figure out what your end-usage is (except for the total units consumed). But mobile operators are able to figure out exactly what you are doing on the Internet. Many of them have installed "deep-packet-inspection" devices which tells them which apps you use. As more and more Indians go online - and a majority will use their mobile phones to do so - telecom companies should not be allowed to charge us based on what we use. It is fair to be charged on the amount of consumption, but do you want an Internet where you will be paying for per app-usage?

India, a young nation of entrepreneurs can't afford not to have an open and neutral Internet. Let Trai hear this too. Let Trai know that we want to save the Internet. For us, and later for our kids as well.
